A Very Special Visit

8th Feb 2019
Yesterday was a historic day in the life of Ballykelly Primary School. In partnership with The Fishmongers' Company we had a visit from HRH Princess Anne. She arrived in the afternoon and was greeted by Mrs Cole (Principal), Mrs McDonald (VP), Rev Wilson (Chair of BOG) and Mr Gavin Boyd (EA) before walking through a Guard of Honour made by the children from the Nursery, SLC and P2-P6 classes and members of staff. The children waved the fish flags they had made and these were admired by HRH Princess Anne as well as the Fishmonger representatives and the Lady-in Waiting. After passing through the Guard of Honour she observed the P1 children playing in their playground as she continued to the Fishmongers' Trail. Here P7 children, in conjunction with Carrowmena, were busy toasting marshmallows, boat building and learning camp craft skills. On returning to the main building she spoke to last year's Head Girl (Rebecca McDonald), and Head Boy (Finn Craig) who, displayed the watches they received from the Fishmongers' Company as well as Amy Lloyd who was awarded the Fishmongers' Cup. She was introduced to Mrs Laura Clarke who designed and facilitated the making of the Community Mural in the Foyer and made suggestions as to how this could be used by the Fishmongers' Company! After some words from Mrs Cole, she unveiled a plague to commemorate her visit and was presented with some gifts by the current Head Girl (Lily Thompson) and Head Boy(James Mackey). Before leaving, she spoke highly about her visit and the good links that were established between the Fishmongers' Company and our school. We were delighted to have this visit and all the children were so excited to be a part of it. Every child was a fantastic ambassador for Ballykelly PS!
