March in nursery.

29th Mar 2019

During March we began our new topic learning all about Ballykelly Village and People Who Help Us. We had a role play bakery, construction site and Chip Shop in nursery. We were writing letters and using our post box and stamps to send letters to our friends in nursery. We have been learning lots of songs about people who help us as well as rhymes all about Spring. We even went over to sing some of our songs and rhymes to the P1 classes.

At the beginning of March we started our ‘Little Glow’ classes. These classes involved sensory relaxation. We were involved in exploring our senses using lights, sounds, vibrations and smells with Laura.

We had great fun during Pancake Tuesday and helped nursery staff to make pancakes for our snack. We even tried to toss the pancake in the frying pan!

At our Art Table we were busy making lots of things for Mother’s Day and Spring. We painted a picture for Mummy and made a lovely basket for her. We made some nests for the birds and decorated our nursery walls with lots of Spring art.

Holly the Hedgehog woke up from hibernation. We couldn’t believe she had slept all through the winter.

We visited Hunter’s Bakery and enjoyed looking at all the lovely bread and cakes for sale. The staff showed us the machine for cutting the bread. We are learning about using money so we bought a bun each and enjoyed our picnic when we returned to nursery.

Cancer Focus visited our school and we found out all about foods that are healthy and not healthy from Bernard The Bear. We gave Bernard a big hug as he was leaving.

Next PSNI officer, Stuart Crutchley arrived in his police car and told us all about how to stay safe when we are out and about. We were allowed to sit in his police car and set off the sirens. That was so exciting. We loved learning all about his very important job.

After entering an online competition we won a Mini Professors Science Class. Professor Adam came in and we learned all about plants. He explained to us how plants grow and we planted some seeds. The best part was dressing up in the white coats. We looked like real professors.

We had a role play Chip Shop in our nursery and then we set off to visit Brian’s Chip Shop. The staff made us feel so welcome. We had a look at the menu and then we enjoyed some chips, a drink and a biscuit. It was a great trip to Brian’s.

At the end of the month we took home all of our beautiful art work for Mother’s Day and a few treats too!
