May 2019

1st May 2019

With the arrival of May, we started work on our ‘Bears’ topic. We were learning all about where bears live and we read lots of stories about Bears during our class story time each day. One of our favourite stories was ‘We’re going on a bear hunt’. We had lots of fun in nursery telling the story using the mud, grass and snow!

Our caterpillars arrived in nursery. When they arrived they were tiny. We watched each day and they grew very quickly. The caterpillars were wriggling around each day and we loved reading the story of ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’ as well. We can’t wait until we have some butterflies in nursery.

The weather during May was lovely and sunny. We made good use of the field beside our nursery. We practised all of our races for Sports Day. We loved the Potato and Spoon race and the Obstacle race.

We went for several walks to our school pond and saw lots of tadpoles. We managed to fish one out and saw it wriggling about in the water. We explored the Fishmongers’ Trail and saw lots of lovely flowers and plants growing.

We planted grass seeds in pots and helped to look after them. The grass grew really quickly. We also made two caterpillars from old socks and watered these. They looked like two hairy caterpillars!

As part of our transition work we went over to join in the Primary 1-Primary 4 school Assembly. We enjoyed watching the Primary One children on stage as they did an assembly for their parents.

Our Yoga Bops classes continued each Friday with Laura. It was great to see so many parents coming in each week to join in.

At the end of May we went on our Teddy Bears Picnic school trip! We travelled to The Playtrail and met Emma and Yvonne who showed us around the park. The weather was beautiful. We went Pond Dipping, took part in a Bug Hunt looking for lots of minibeasts and we played in the Park. We had a lovely picnic inside with our teddy bears. We had such a great day at The Playtrail and lots of Mums and Dads came along to help out. I think the adults enjoyed the fun at the park as well!!
