Autumn to Christmas Term: A Season of Learning and Fun!
18th Nov 2024
As the leaves have turned golden and the days have grown shorter, we've had a fantastic time diving into our Autumn to Christmas term! Here’s a peek into what we've been up to, and what’s coming up in the exciting weeks ahead.
Forest Fun: Crafting Bubble Blowers
Our forest time has been a big highlight this term. The children have enjoyed exploring the outdoors, soaking up the sights, sounds, and smells of autumn. A special project we tackled was crafting bubble blowers from ash trees! It’s been amazing to see everyone’s enthusiasm as they worked with natural materials, transforming a simple branch into a magical bubble wand. We’ve had plenty of giggles and joyful moments as the bubbles danced in the crisp autumn air.
Maths Magic: Learning About Money
In the classroom, we've just started a new and practical maths topic: money! We are focusing on making amounts up to £1. The children have been learning to recognise different coins and how to combine them to make a variety of amounts. This hands-on approach has made maths more engaging, and everyone has enjoyed playing shopkeeper, counting coins, and solving problems. It’s wonderful to see them build these essential skills in such a fun and interactive way!
Wicked Weather: Exploring Through Playful Learning
Our current topic is "Wicked Weather," and we’ve kicked it off with lots of playful learning in the classroom. The children have been curious about everything from rainy days to sunny spells, and we’re exploring the different types of weather in creative and imaginative ways. We’ve been experimenting with water, wind, and even had some fun weather-related stories and games. It's been a perfect way to learn about the world around us and to make connections with the weather we see outside our windows.
Writing Ahead: Instructions & Creative Work
Over the coming weeks, we will be focusing on writing skills, with a particular emphasis on crafting clear and effective instructions. We’ll be working on writing step-by-step guides, using our experiences from the forest and other classroom activities as inspiration. This will be a wonderful opportunity for the children to develop their writing and sequencing skills, while reflecting on all the exciting things they've been doing this term.
Christmas Cheer: Preparing for Nativity – Tinsel and Tea Towels
As we move closer to Christmas, the excitement is building for our Nativity play, *Tinsel and Tea Towels*. Rehearsals are just beginning, and there's a buzz of anticipation in the air. The children are looking forward to learning their lines, singing songs, and preparing costumes. This traditional Christmas activity is always a highlight, and we can’t wait to share it with you!
This term has been full of exploration, creativity, and joy, and there’s so much more to come. We look forward to continuing our journey together as we move from autumn into the Christmas season. Thank you for your support and encouragement, and stay tuned for more updates as our adventures unfold!
Wishing everyone a warm and wonderful lead-up to Christmas!
