P5 SMD /KC
We are so impressed with how well P5 settled back in school. Every morning children arrive with smiles on their face and are eager to see their friends and find out what the timetable is for the day.
Everyone is loving our Titanic topic. The children can research and recall the most amazing facts- do you know how many passengers were on The Titanic or how many lifeboats it had? Ask a P5 and you will be very amazed at what they know and how they can research and find out information independently.
In Number work we are working hard on our times tables. They can be tricky, but we are learning strategies to help us. Did you know all the 4 times tables are even numbers? We also have been revising addition and subtraction and now we have started dividing. We have been learning 2D and 3D shapes and created lovely artwork linked to symmetry and tessellation.
In Literacy we are completing instructional writing and we are very competent at making hot chocolate. Our class novel is Diary of a Wimpy Kid and we are enjoying all the humour and predicaments that Greg finds himself in. P5 are learning how to do joined up writing in pen. It is early days, but we are doing great. P5 also are involved in Accelerated Reader. We are working hard to reach our target and it is amazing how this programme even tracks the number of words that each of us have read since September. Will any P5 make the Millionaire Club this year?
We all enjoy our time outdoors. We like to visit the Woodland Trail and take part in our run a mile challenge. Fitness levels are improving. Ronan our IFA coach also visits us on a Friday. He works on specific skills like throwing and catching and it is always great fun.
We have spent a little time talking about our feelings. Everyday we choose our Pupil of the Day and write a list of compliments. It is important that we have the language and skills to understand emotions and how best to deal with them.
P5 (and not forgetting the parents) have demonstrated how competent they are with ICT. We use Microsoft Teams to set our homework and complete assignments. We can use forms, upload pictures and our teachers can send us feedback.
Mellisa is our Classroom Assistant- she never stops and takes great care of everyone. She is brilliant at making up playground games at break and lunch.
Our half term break has arrived a little earlier than expected. Have a lovely break- take care and stay safe.
