P5/6 Term 1 2019

9th Dec 2019

P5/6 have all had a great first term. Everyone has settled very well and are working hard. The class are taught by Mr Duffy (Monday- Wednesday) and Mrs McDonald (Thursday and Friday) and our Classroom Assistant is called Louise.

This term we had lots of fun carrying out Orienteering with Mr Fred Corscadden.   We know how to read a map and we travelled to Limavady Grammar School to take part in an Orienteering challenge. Our theme in Key Stage 2 is Location, Location, Location. We know lots of information about the world map and can identify the continents, oceans and many countries. We also made a map of Northern Ireland showing lots of key features and we made a tourist leaflet about our village Ballykelly.

In Literacy we are all working hard to reach our Accelerated Reading Target and every month we find out how many words we have read. Our class novel is Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and everyone is enjoying it. In Writing the genres which we have covered this term are recount, instructional and narrative and we work on applying our grammar skills including presentation.

In Numeracy we have worked on the 4 operations –adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing. We are all learning our tables and each week our recall is getting faster and faster. The 7,8 and 9 times tables are tricky but we are all persevering. We also know lots about fractions and we can name and label 2D and 3D shapes. We also enjoyed constructing shapes- look at our photos to see what we created.

In ICT we have designed a poster using Microsoft Publisher. We were able to use the Internet to help us with our research skills.

This term P5/6 went swimming and our teachers are very impressed with the progress we have made.

We wish everyone a Happy Christmas and a well-deserved break.
