Term 1 2023-2024

21st Sep 2023
P5 have settled very well into their new classroom; all the pupils are becoming familiar with the new routines and their teachers Mrs Darrall and Mrs McDonald.
P5s get to go swimming for the first time as a class.  This is very exciting and everyone is coping very well and can demonstrate how independent and capable they are.  Also P5s have started Accelerated Reader- I wonder if anyone this year will make it into our Millionaire Club.
We started of the term by learning more about Vincent Van Gogh- did you know that Vincent Van Gogh painted over 90 portraits of himself- we drew our own self-portraits and have them displayed outside our classroom.  We also looked at the painting "Starry Night" and everyone replicated their own version.  We were very pleased with the results.
In Literacy our class novel is The Diary of a Wimpy Kid and we are all enjoying the story. It makes us laugh out loud and the illustrations add to the story.  In Grammar we are learning all about Nouns, Verbs and Adjectives and in Writing we all know what is needed for instructions.
In Numeracy we are focusing on the 4 operations- adding, takeaway, multiplying and dividing- this can be tricky but we are all making so much progress.  We are also learning about 2D and 3D shapes and we were amazed at how many shapes we can find in our environment.
This term our topic work is linked to The Titanic-we are finding out lots of facts and we are learning how to carry out research for ourselves.
We also have Pupil of the Day and P5 are excellent at giving compliments that are very unique to each child.
Most importantly everyone arrives at school with a smile on their face and is prepared to give their very best.
Well done P5.
